Wildfires contained after lightning in Red Rock Canyon

SHARE

Firefighters have contained two wildfires sparked by lightning yesterday in Red Rock Canyon. The Bureau of Land Management says the 25-acre Diamond fire and the 45-acre Carpenter fires are in mop-up mode – with no structures threatened and no injuries reported.

The Diamond fire started with a lightning strike about mid-afternoon yesterday on Blue Diamond Hill.

It sent up a big cloud of smoke about 20 miles west of Las Vegas, but crews contained it quickly.

The Carpenter fire was started with a bolt of lightning during a storm last night in the lower part of Carpenter Canyon.

There are 20 firefighters on it today.
