A video recorded Thursday shows the intense fireball that nearly took out a dozen firefighters in Queens, after a five-alarm fire experienced a backdraft.
The inferno burned through multiple businesses, ranging from a diner to a hardware store and a sex shop.
The massive backdraft engulfed several vehicles and twelve people, including seven firefighters.
According to the Daily Mail, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The incident was captured by Queens resident Joseph John Ramos, who was filming from a high-rise building in the early morning hours where the fire
Assistant Fire Chief Anthony DeVita Jr., said that the fire crews were instrumental in saving life that fateful day/
“The chiefs on scene were proactive,” DeVita said later. “They saw this was an advanced fire and they began to back the troops out. Because they took that action, that more than likely prevented more serious injuries.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
