Video: FDNY firefighter proposes to teacher girlfriend in front of her students

Thrilled to have her boyfriend, New York City firefighter David Royael visit her classroom and teach her kindergarten students a fire safety lesson, Natalie Moy got a big surprise.

On the last day of school before the winter break, Royael came to the classroom with a ‘lesson plan’ of his own for the unsuspecting Moy, who was brave enough to put on her boyfriend’s full gear in front of her students. Heavyweight pants with boots attached, a jacket, helmet, and of course, the gloves…which had something extra inside, that Moy mistook as “part of the protection”, and almost missed finding the box containing her engagement ring.

Once Moy realized, she opened the box, Royael took the ring, and on bended knee, he proposed amidst a roar of laughter and screams of delight by the class full of happy kids. The entire proposal was caught on video.

After the initial shock, someone off-camera says to Royael: “That almost didn’t work.” Royael responded, “I can’t believe she put on the glove and she didn’t realize the box was in there.”

Moy has been a teacher for 14 years; Royael has been with the FDNY for 13 years according to AMNY.
