Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested two Mowbray Mountain volunteer firefighters today on aggravated arson indictments that were returned from a Hamilton County grand jury. The arrests are the result of an investigation that began in early 2009 into a series of fires at vacant residences on Mowbray Mountain, sheriff’s spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said.
George Lewis, 19, and William Harris, 18, were arrested. It was found during the investigation that after igniting the fires both men responded to the scene as members of the Mowbray Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Ms. Atkinson said.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and fire investigators with the Hamilton County Fire Investigation Task Force.
