Three homes were evacuated in south central Florida this afternoon after a construction crew unknowingly uncovered a military explosive device, causing it to catch fire.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal unit and the St. Lucie County Fire District were called to the Hutchinson location at about 1:30 PM, resulting in a mandatory evacuation of the immediate area.

According to the Palm Beach Post, fire crews say a front-end loader was moving dirt when it unearthed the object.
