The Tesla that caught fire in Utah was on autopilot when it slammed into a fire truck at high-speed, authorities have discovered.

The 28-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Tesla told Salt Lake City Police that the vehicle was on autopilot, which uses radar, cameras and sensors to detect nearby objects and cars.

While the incident has gotten a lot of attention, CBS News reports that Tesla Co-Founder Elon Musk finds the blame to be misplaced, given that the autopilot is only semi-autonomous and acts as a safety mechanism.

“The system worked as described, which is that it’s a hands-on system. It is not a self-driving system,” Musk said.

The fire truck sustained far less damage than the Tesla, which was a total loss.
