Strangers helped save Florida firefighter’s foot after he was bitten by shark while surfing

A Martin County firefighter is thanking the people who came to his aid after his foot was bitten by a shark while surfing during an off-day.

According to WPTV, Justin Kendrick says he must have stepped on the shark’s head and not the sand while he was coming out of the water at the Fort Pierce Inlet.

The shark retaliated and bit into Kendrick’s foot, leaving it bloody and ripped open.

A man walking by saw what was happening and took the shirt off his back to create a tourniquet for Kendrick while others called 911.

Kendrick needed 37 stitches to close the wound, but he feels things could have been much worse if not for those good samaritans.  ”I think I got lucky I got bit where I got bit,” he said. “And there was nice enough people walking by to lend out a hand and take literally the shirt off their back and give me their own towel to wrap up.”
