A South Carolina firefighter was fatally struck in Lancaster County while conducting traffic operations at an emergency scene.
59-year-old Dennis Straight was killed at around 7 PM on Wednesday after he was struck by a vehicle on a Highway 5 on-ramp.

The Assistant Chief of the Charlotte Road-Van Wyck Fire Department, Straight was a volunteer fireman for over 20 years at the time of his death.
CR-VW FD trucks were adorned with flowers in his honor, and the Indian Land and Pleasant Valley Fire Depts took over jurisdictional duties to allow the department to grieve
According to WSOCTV, Straight leaves behind a wife and other family, the 33-year-old driver that hit him was unharmed and has not been charged at this time.
