The Gallia County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a suspect who stole a set of decorations from a slain firefighter’s grave.

According to WCHS, the items decorated the grave of Wendell “Trey” Rossiter, a firefighter who had been killed in an August car accident.

Fire Captain Adam Jones says the theft brought the moral of the entire department down during the holidays.

“Every time he would come into the station, he would shake everyone’s hand and ask them about their day,” Jones said. “He was just a great guy.”

The items were stolen on December 21st or 22nd according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Jones hopes Rossiter’s grave is left alone so he can rest in peace.

“If you have the decorations, please drop them off at the firehouse,” Jones said. “We will make sure Trey’s family gets them back.”
