Priority 1 Trauma Flown From Accident


Washington County 9-1-1 became flooded with calls yesterday just after 14:00 hours. Dispatchers took several reports of a serious vehicle accident on National Pike in the area of The Hagerstown Speedway. Reports came in of a multi-vehicle accident with entrapments. Dispatchers were quickly able to dispatch out Clearspring Fire and EMS along with MSP Aviation Trooper 3.

Crews from Clearspring Co.4 & 49 arrived to find a three-vehicle accident with one truck on it side with an entrapment in it. Captain Werner of Clearspring Fire arrived and quickly assumed command of the incident. After size up of the incident, and additional Medic unit was requested out of Williamsport EMS.

While EMS crews attended to the other victims involved in the accident, Clearspring Fire worked to extricate the patient in the pick-up truck the was on its side. Crews were able to complete the extrication around 14:40 hours. The patient was a priority patient and was transported to a Trauma Center by MSP Trooper 3.

One Medic unit on the scene made transport to Washington County Trauma Center. It is believed that only one patient was transported by ground and the priority patient by air.  Once all patients were transported, EMS units began to clear.  Clearspring Fire remained on the scene with MSP for an extended period until all hazards could be removed from the scene.
