Boston firefighters rescued two people from a burning home in Roslindale Wednesday evening.

District 12 Fire Chief Scott Whalen told reporters at the scene that two people were disoriented by the smoke, so firefighters went into the home and took them down the stairs. Several pets, including a 6-year-old turtle named ShellShocker, were also rescued.

The fire department tweeted that the 2-alarm blaze broke out at 15-17 Delford St. around 6:05 p.m. Heavy fire was showing from the rear of the two-story house when crews arrived.

One resident was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening. Damage of the home is estimated at $400,000.

The department said seven adults and three children were displaced by the fire. Officials are working to find the cause and origin of the blaze.
