A Florida firefighter in preparing for a fishing tournament Boynton Beach caught sight of something he never wanted to find- a dead child.

Chris Lemieux was catching bait with his friends in a local inlet this weekend when the day took a sour turn.

“We were just out there catching bait, just doing our normal thing, you know, having fun in the afternoon, and then the day changed all of a sudden,” Lemieux said.

Floating in the water near the charter boat was the decomposing body of a little girl.

“We actually thought it was a toy doll,” Lemieux said. “With what I’ve seen in the past, unfortunately, with the fire department, I noticed pretty quick that it wasn’t a toy or a doll.”

Realizing it was a crime scene, the charter captain orbited around the body while the firefighter called 911.

“I can’t say that I’ve ever seen anything like this,” Lemieux said. “It’s sad that we see it, and it’s very unfortunate.”

According to CBS12, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victims Unit came to scoop up the child and take her to the Medical Examiner’s Office, to determine her identity and cause of death.
