A Mississippi division chief with the Jackson Fire Department was shot while sleeping in his bed on Sunday night- and miraculously survived.

Jackson Fire Chief Willie Owens identified the shooting victim as Division Chief Craig Odems, who is reported to be in good spirits at the Intensive Care Unit.

“He is a blessed guy,” Owens said, noting that no vital organs were hit.

The shots were believed to have been fired from a rifle, and went through both their daughter’s window and a bedroom wall before hit hit Odems.

The Clarion Ledger reports that an individual was observed walking in the area prior to the shooting, though no suspects have been identified.
