A Miami-Dade firefighter was airlifted to the trauma unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital after falling during the rescue of a person stuck in an elevator in Bal Harbour, according to reports.

The incident happened Tuesday morning in the Neiman Marcus store at the Bal Harbour Shops on Collins Ave., WPLG-Ch. 10 reported.

According to Ch. 10, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erica Benitez said firefighters were helping a person who was stuck in an elevator on the third floor.

That’s when the firefighter fell, but it wasn’t clear if the firefighter fell from the third floor.

The Miami Herald reported that the fire-rescue worker suffered serious injuries after falling down the elevator shaft.
