Fire crews in Oregon scrambled to tackle a massive blaze, resulting in multiple home and school evacuations in Portland.
The blaze began earlier this morning, prompting multiple fire units to respond. A few hours after arriving, evacuation orders began, prompting a school shut down and several homes to be cleared.
Portland Public Schools sent a letter to parents warning of possible negative health impacts.
“Due to the large amount of smoke in the air that potentially could have unhealthy carcinogens, and is blowing in our direction, we are choosing to keep our students inside at all three campuses and we will re-evaluate prior to lunch recess,” the letter said.
According to KGW, there was a one-mile “shelter in place zone and the smoke was visible from other parts of town.
