A Wisconsin man was charged with attacking an off-duty firefighter at a music festival while he was attempting to provide CPR to a woman.

West Allis firefighter and EMT Chad Staszak was assaulted after attempting to revive a concert-goer, who fell to the ground and ceased breathing.

“When I started with chest compressions I felt a strike to the back of my head,” Staszak told TMJ4, “I’m not sure if it was an elbow or a closed fist.”

Undeterred, he continued compressions. Unfortunately, the woman did not survive. Despite being assaulted and potentially injured, Staszak offered the woman’s family a ride to the hospital.

The attacker -32-year-old Robert P. Ryan- was later hauled away by police. He was hostile and uncooperative with officers.
