Virginia State Police have discovered three set of human remains as several people were reported missing after a gas station explosion on Friday.
Investigators declared one person dead and several missing, but adjusted their search after discovering the bodies of two more people later on Friday and Saturday.
The remains recovered from the South River Market station were sent to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for identification, State Police Sgt. Rick Garletts said.
Garletts did not say if anyone was still unaccounted for.
While Garletts said the explosion did not seem suspicious, it was policy to investigate as a criminal act until police can prove otherwise.
Names of the victims have not been released.
