Frigid temperatures in Chicago have forced local authorities to set fire to train tracks in order to clear the snow and ice.

With parts of the Windy City currently being hit with wind chills at 49 degrees below zero and temps expected to drop even further, railroad crews have set fire to tracks with kerosene in order to keep the tracks from being damaged.

According to The Week, the tracks can be re-bolted or welding repairs can be made if damage is found in the aftermath of the thawing process.
