A Margate Fire Rescue lieutenant is behind bars after deputies say he shot a man who drove through a neighborhood block party.

Lorne Brown, 39, was arrested Thursday morning on several charges including premeditated murder, shooting into a vehicle and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

A Fire Rescue spokesperson said Brown has been suspended with pay.

Simeon Brown was driving near Southwest 91st Terrace and 52nd Court in Cooper City Sunday evening when he reached a traffic roadblock, deputies say. The 22-year-old then went through the block party, a move that appeared to anger some of the neighbors.

When Simeon Brown returned to the area, two neighbors had their firearms drawn. One, later identified as Lorne Brown, shot into the vehicle and hit the 22-year-old in the arm, according to BSO. He needed to be taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“A fragment went up to my neck,” Simeon Brown told WPLG Local 10.

Lorne Brown, who was taken into custody Thursday morning, has worked for the department since 2004, according to the Fire Rescue spokesperson. Jail records do not yet list a bail amount.
