Several residents in the Georgia city of Macon expressed their thanks for the firefighters who risked their lives to save three homes that went up in flames on Wednesday night, including five firefighters who were hospitalized.
The firefighters fought bravely, according to Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins.
“Unfortunately I have had to send four firefighters that were injured inside of this fire to Navicent Healthcare at this point in time,” he said.
All residents from the affected homes managed to evacuate in time, and the flames were stopped in time before the entire neighborhood went up.
“I was worried that it might get down as far as our house because of the way the flames were coming through the roof and these houses are so close together,” resident Albert Reichert told 13WMAZ.
While three families in the community are displaced, the neighborhood is thankful that it didn’t become worse than it did.
“We owe a lot to them because of what they do,” said Reichert.
