The Eiffel Tower was closed and evacuated Monday after an intruder was seen climbing the Paris monument on Monday.

It was not clear how the man was able to get past the city’s tight security system, but firefighters were able to reach and talk to him before he could approach the third and highest level of the popular landmark, according to the Associated Press. It appears he used the main entrance and began his climb from the second floor.

His motive was also not immediately clear.

Videos circulating on social media show a man wearing a dark jacket and jeans slowly going up the tower as at least one firefighter tries to approach him.

A message on the attraction’s official website tourists to postpone their visit.

The monument is 1,063 feet high, according to the website.
