Crews are working to remove a tractor-trailer that is hanging off the High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake after the driver struck the wall of the bridge, according to Virginia State Police.
At 8:43 a.m., the tractor-trailer struck the wall on Interstate 64 westbound, entrapping the driver and causing the cab of the truck to partially hang off the right side of the bridge, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, in an email.
The driver is alert and out of the cab and crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Chesapeake Fire and Rescue and state police are working to remove the tractor-trailer from the bridge.
Detours are now in place for westbound at exit 296 and eastbound at exit 291B, according to VDOT. All westbound lanes are blocked.
