Firefighter, soldier who died on military base succumbed to drug overdose

The Arizona firefighter and US Army Ranger who was found dead at an Arizona Army National Guard base earlier this year reportedly died of a drug and alcohol overdose.

45-year-old Captain Justin Doherty allegedly died in July from died of an overdose involving alcohol, oxycodone and fentanyl coupled with diazepam.

A veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq, Doherty was beloved by the Phoenix Fire Department, who awarded him a medal for bravery after he entered a building in shorts and flip flops in an attempt to save people.

According to AZ Central, Doherty was given a hero’s funeral and was posthumously promoted to Fire Captain.
