An Illinois firefighter who left on a call returned to find that a tornado had destroyed his home, lifting it off the foundation.

Taylorville residents are in shock -and many homeless- after Saturday night’s tornado ripped through the town.

Firefighter Nick Hackney returned from his job to find his home destroyed, though his family and pets are safe.

“I know that I have a responsibility to my community. First, make sure my family is safe, make sure my community is safe, and go from there,” Hackney said.

According to ABC20, Hackney plans on continuing his job, despite the challenges of his newfound homelessness.
