Female Firefighter claims she was demoted for being a Woman and a Mother

A Pennsylvania firefighter claims she was demoted due to being a mother and a woman, using the claims as a ground for a lawsuit against her fire department.

Jessica Etzle claims she was removed from her Lieutenant’s post in 2016, with authorities claiming “‘You have a 6-year-old son’ and she needed to be home and be a mother to her son.”

The former firefighter then went on to claim that male firefighters were promoted to Lieutenant positions on the same day as her firing, despite having families of their own.

According to Fox 43, court documents show that Etzle was a member of the fire company for over 11 years before her promotion to Lieutenant in 2014.

In June of 2016, Etzle filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission saying that her fellow firefighters “created an uncomfortable working environment for her.”

She is currently seeking monetary damages.
