A sheriff’s deputy in Ohio was set ablaze while attempting to serve felony warrants in Portage County on Thursday.
The Portage County deputy -identified as Sergeant Jim Acklin- was reportedly doused in accelerant and set alight by the suspect, suffering second and third-degree burns on his hands, arms and legs.
Acklin’s partners managed to extinguish the fire and took the suspect into custody.
During the incident, the structure where the incident took place caught fire, and the building sustained severe damage.
According to News 5 Cleveland, several officers aside from Acklin were treated for smoke inhalation. Acklin was transported to an Akron hospital, where he remains.
Portage County Sheriff David Doak said that Sgt. Acklin is slated to retire this year.
