A driver was pulled from a pond by firefighters in Fort Collins on Monday after the car plunged into cold water.

The incident happened at about 5:15 p.m. in the 4500 block of Weitzel Street, according to the Poudre Fire Authority.

The driver was taken to a local hospital. After the water rescue, firefighters remained on scene and used a boat crew and tools to search the water around the vehicle. A Larimer County Dive and Rescue team also searched the water in Gateway Pond. No other people were found.

Firefighters attached a rope to the car so it could be towed out of the pond. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
