Scores of people were injured and one person was feared dead after a fire broke out at an animation studio in the western Japanese city of Kyoto on Thursday.
A man had scattered what appeared to be petrol at the site, local media reported.
Nearly 40 people were injured and about 10 of them were in critical condition, Kyodo News agency reported, citing local authorities.
Police were questioning the man who has been taken into custody, according to Kyodo.
The fire started around 10:30 am (0130 GMT) at a three-story studio of Kyoto Animation, a company known for producing several popular TV animation series, the report said.
