A bear in California caused quite a stir for a Humboldt County sheriff’s deputy after it fell onto the hood of his patrol car, causing a rollover and subsequent fire.

The HCSO deputy was on his way to an overdose call in Orleans Saturday night when the bear fell from an embankment above him, landing on his hood.

The sudden impact -far weightier than a mere deer strike- caused the vehicle to roll over and catch fire.

According to KRCR-TV, the Hoopa Fire Department put the fire out in short order, though around half an acre was burned by the time they were done.

The deputy escaped without injury, and the condition/whereabouts of the bear is unknown.
