A Pennsylvania Soldier and Ashville-area firefighter is being remembered after he was killed in a tragic ATV crash.

19-year-old PV2 Cody Maines was killed in his hometown on Friday in an ATV crash, having lost control on Bem Road.

Home on leave from his recent assignment to Fort Carson, Colorado, Maines was honored by the Ashville Volunteer Fire Department, where he has served since he was a 14-year-old Junior Firefighter.

“He was proud to become a senior firefighter when he turned 18,” AVFD Chief Joe Racz said, “He earned that and he worked hard at it, as hard as anyone.”

Joining the Army on June 12, 2017, Maines was assigned to the 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division in December. Never one to slow down, he took up his old firefighting duties while on leave, going on a call within hours of his arrival.

“The night he got home from leave he was at his house for five minutes and he left home and came to the fire station because he wanted to be a part of it and always was,” Racz said.

According to WJACTV, his funeral is scheduled for tomorrow.
