Movie actor Danny Trejo is known for playing bad guys on the big screen, but he’s a selfless hero in real life.
A former convict, the Los Angeles native turned his life around before becoming an actor, though he was often typecast in villain roles throughout his career.
On Wednesday, Trejos was in the California city of Sylmar when a woman reportedly ran a red light and hit an SUV, flipping it over.
Leaping into action, Trejos soon realized he was in the right place at the right time as he saw a small boy trapped in the SUV.
Trejos, who has a soft spot for children and regularly works with them for charitable causes, knew exactly how to coax the kid into a safer situation.
“He was panicked,” he said. “I said, ‘OK, we have to use our superpowers’. So he screamed ‘superpowers’ and we started yelling ‘superpowers.’ I said do this, with the muscles. He said ‘muscles.”
Forming a bond with the child, the actor kept him distracted from the scene of the wreck while LA Fire crews got to work.
According to the Daily Mail, Trejos considers himself fortunate to have been able to help.
“Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else,” he said. “Everything.”
