Three firefighters hurt while battling 2-alarm fire


Three Richmond firefighters were injured battling a two-alarm house fire in North Side on Friday morning.

The fire was in a two-story home at 2813 Griffin Ave., which is 1 1/2 blocks south of West Brookland Park Boulevard. Firefighters fought the blaze for nearly two hours.

Lt. Chris Armstrong with the Richmond Fire Department said the call came in at 10:24 a.m. and firefighters arrived on scene at 10:29 a.m. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the home.

At 12:16 p.m., the Richmond Fire Department reported that the fire was under control.

Armstrong said three firefighters suffered minor injuries. Two were transported to local hospitals to be checked out. They were expected to be released Friday. The third was treated on the scene.

Red Cross will be offering assistance to two residents who were displaced by the fire.
