A Nashville firefighter is missing after his vehicle plunged into the cold waters of the Tennessee River.

Nashville Fire Department firefighter Jesse Reed went missing on Monday after his vehicle went into the water near the Mason’s Boat Dock in Waverly, according to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis.

A woman was also in the vehicle with the 32-year-old firefighter when it went under but escaped unharmed. The vehicle ended up in the river at about 1:30 AM, making recovery and rescue difficult in the cold waters.

Around 11 hours later, the vehicle was later discovered, but the 5-year member of the Nashville Fire Department was nowhere to be found.

“It is entirely possible that Jesse was not in the vehicle and is currently a missing person,” Davis said Wednesday.

According to the Tennessean, the search continues for Reed’s body. Multiple agencies including Humphreys County Fire, Montgomery Rescue Squad and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are taking part in the search.
