Wisconsin firefighters are being honored with a “Fire Chief Ale” at a Milwaukee brewery, with the first benefit held yesterday at the Rock Bottom Brewery.

The event was a fundraiser for the Local 215’s Firefighter Cancer Prevention Initiative, which educates the public on cancer risks to firefighters (due to carcinogen exposure) and provides high-end washers and dryers to fire departments to clean aforementioned carcinogens off their clothes.

According to Fox6Now, the initiative organizers have equipped 16 firehouses so far, partially in thanks to help from sponsors such as the Rock Bottom Brewery.

“We want to have firefighters stay on the job as long as they can and retire when they want to and not because they have to because they’ve contracted cancer from their exposure,” said Firefighters Auxiliary President Cat Zyniecki.
