Firefighters are battling a blaze at an East Yorkshire food factory. The fire started in a truck and then engulfed the premises of Primepack Foods, on the Kelleythorpe Industrial Estate, Driffield. Three fire crews, including 18 firefighters, dealt with the blaze which broke out in a refrigerated truck just before 7am.
The truck was well alight before the fire spread to a nearby building and then the roof of the Primepack factory, which packs cheese and bacon.
Glenn Ramsden, of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This type of building construction will always pose serious hazards to firefighters.
“Fire can spread through the sandwich panels unseen, which can have devastating consequences.”
He added: “Crews will be on scene for some time as they are carrying out a meticulous check of every possible area with thermal imaging cameras to verifying that there is no further fire spread in the panels.”
Firefighters had the blaze under control by about 8am.
