A fire in the upper floors of an apartment building at 52 Page St., in the city’s Hayes Valley neighborhood, sent flames and smoke billowing skyward Monday evening. The flames forced a firefighter to jump from the fourth story — 12-feet down to the roof of an adjoining building.

He has a leg injury but was able to rejoin his unit.

Page is located between Market and Gough streets, west of downtown and just east of the Castro neighborhood. The area is a mix of commercial and residential buildings.

The three-alarm blaze was reported at 5:08 p.m., according to a San Francisco Fire Department dispatcher.

There were no initial reports of the fire’s cause.
