The Assistant Chief of a Connecticut volunteer fire department has been suspended for one week due to safety violations.

68-year-old Stamford Fire Assistant Chief Robert “Rex” Morris was suspended after falling through a fire-damaged floor in a building on January 21. His suspension was lifted last week.

Morris was uninjured in the fall and was able to get out without incident.

Morris reportedly was the highest-ranking man on the scene when he reportedly slipped on a board and fell through the floor.

Fire Chief Trevor Roach declined to tell the Stamford Advocate what exactly Morris did wrong, saying only that it was a “personnel matter” and that he was suspended for “safety concerns.”

Critics of Morris say a ranking official should not have been in the building during the event.
