Rhode Island Firefighters Battle Structure Fire
(Rhode Island) -
Shortly after 05:00 Sunday Morning four days before Christmas, Lincoln firefighters were dispatched to 3 Earl Street in the Fairlawn district of town for a house fire. Saylesville companies arrived and reported a 1.5 story occupied dwelling fully involved with possible entrapment, one occupant jumped from a floor two window to safety and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital via rescue 2 with minor injuries. Incident command ordered the evacuation of the building due to water problems and structural involvement, Ladder 51 set up a ladder pipe on side one while additional crews worked with large lines from the exterior on all sides.
The heavy volume of fire was knocked down and contained in around an hour then crews made reentry to conduct searches and overhaul during this time a young child was found deceased on the second floor. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, one firefighter was transported to memorial hospital by Pawtucket rescue 1 for treatment of minor injuries.
