British Columbia Firefighters Battle Blaze
Canada (British Columbia) - Dozens of firefighters Tuesday were fighting the out-of-control Jade wildfire near Lillooet, British Columbia, officials said. The fire, which has burned more than 1,650 since being ignited by a lightning strike last week, was only about 15 percent contained, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

About 85 people in 30 homes were under an evacuation alert, the CBC said.

"Our crews are going to be very vigilant today," fire information officer Garry Horely said. "We are going to be on guard for the predicted thunderstorms, and we may have to move off of it, if the winds to become erratic. It will be a very dangerous situation to be out there."

Because of ongoing dry conditions, British Columbian officials have announced a campfire ban covering all areas of the province except the Kootenay region and the extreme West Coast of Vancouver Island will take effect Thursday.
