South Carolina Firefighter Dies From Fire Station Injury

Firefighter Charles Bob Robert Flintom of Pelham-Batesville Fire Department was in the fire station kitchen preparing lunch when he blacked-out, fell, and struck his head on July 1, 2010. Flintom went to the hospital and discovered his fall had caused some internal bleeding. The following day, Firefighter Flintom's condition worsened and he became unconscious, passing away from his injury on July 4th.
He devoted over 30 years of his life serving the community as a firefighter and was currently a full time career firefighter with Pelham-Batesville Fire Department where he held the position of Engineer and former Shift Captain. He was also a current sales representative for Leslie Fire Equipment Company, and Unique Fire Apparatus Company, and formerly worked for Burgess Fire Equipment Co. Before entering public service he was a Pharmaceutical Representative for E. R. Squibb/Bristol-Myers Company.
He was a past member of the Boiling Springs Fire Department during which time he served as a volunteer firefighter. He was also a past member of the North Spartanburg Fire Department where he served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and Assistant Chief.
He was voted Firefighter of the Year in 1983 by North Spartanburg Fire Department and was awarded an Outstanding Service Award by Pelham- Batesville Fire Department in 1992 for employing CPR Lifesaving measures.
