Australia - Brisbanes Broadway Hotel has been extensively damaged by fire, with police saying the cause of the blaze is still unknown. The fire broke out in the hotel, which is situated on Logan Road, Woolloongabba, at about 2.30am (AEST) on Sunday. No one was injured in the blaze, however police say the building has sustained major damage.

Initial police investigations suggest the fire may have started in the basement and spread to the upper levels.

A police spokesman said the cause of the fire is as yet unknown.

'It is likely to be some time before fire investigators can safely gain access to the building to conduct their examinations,' he said.

Motorists are advised that road closures around the hotel will be in place throughout most of the day.
