Child Dies, Two Others Injured In Chesterfield House Fire
United States (Virginia) - A child died this evening after being pulled from a burning Chesterfield County home in a subdivision off Salem Church Road, fire officials said. An adult occupant of the home and a county firefighter also were injured, but both had non-life-threatening injuries, said fire spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore.

Fire crews were called at 7:05 p.m. to the 5800 block of Gunsight Terrace, in the Huntingcreek Hills subdivision off Salem Church Road.

"Heavy fire was showing when they marked on scene," Elmore said. "They had to do an interior search and were able to pull one person out, a child, who was transported with life-threatening injuries."

That child later died, Elmore said. The age and gender of the child were not immediately released.

A firefighter who suffered minor, non-life-threatening burns also was transported to the hospital.

Elmore said the back portion of the house sustained heavy fire damage. The blaze was marked under control in less than 30 minutes. The cause remains under investigation.
