Ontario Firefighter Dies In Training Exercise
Canada (Ontario) -
A Sarnia-area firefighter died early yesterday morning, a day after he was rescued from beneath the ice of the St. Clair River during a training exercise. Lambton Ontario Provincial Police say Gary Kendall, 51, and other members of Point Edward Volunteer Fire and Rescue were participating in an ice-water rescue training exercise near Point Edward's water treatment plant, around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Kendall became trapped under the ice and was rescued by fellow fire and rescue personnel. He was transported to hospital, where he was in acute care, but later died from his injuries.
