Fairfield Home Destroyed In Two-Alarm Fire
United States (New Jersey) -
An early morning fire tore through a home in Fairfield on December 13th, burning most of the roof off and leaving it uninhabitable. Shortly before 4:00 AM, the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched to 42 Hollywood Ave for what Police reported as a heavily involved structure. First in units confirmed the report and immediately requested a second alarm. The 1 ½ story frame had heavy smoke and fire showing as lines were stretched and an interior attack was attempted. The fire had too much of a head start and the interior was untenable, so all members were withdrawn and a defensive operation was initiated .Fairfield Tower 1 went into operation on the “A” side and handlines worked from both the “A” and “C” sides.
After the heavy fire was knocked down from the outside, crews were able to renter the home for overhaul. The fire was able to be placed under control shortly after 6:00. No serious injuries were reported. North Caldwell and West Caldwell assisted at the scene as well as four ambulances. The cause has not been determined, Fairfield Detectives, Essex County Arson Squad and the Prosecutotor’s Office is investigating.
