Franklin Co. Business Destroyed By Morning Fire
United States (Virginia) - A Ferrum business was destroyed by fire this morning. Underwood's Custom Kitchens near the intersection of Franklin and Skillet roads is deemed a total loss after the fire, which started in the attic, said Franklin County Fire Marshal Bennie Russell.

He said he will meet with insurance investigators Tuesday to try and determine the cause. The building was only five years old and an addition was added about a year ago, Russell said.

According to the business' Web site, Underwood's Custom Kitchens is owned and operated by Franklin County natives Jim and Darlene Underwood.

Fire fighters from Ferrum, Rocky Mount, Boones Mill, Callaway and Henry all responded to the fire, Russell said.

While fire companies battled the blaze, the westbound lane of Virginia 40 was closed but is now open to traffic.
