Fire At SW Side Swap Meet Under Investigation
United States (Arizona) - A fire at a southwest side swap meet late Sunday night is under investigation this morning, a fire official said. It took 30 firefighters with the Drexel Heights Fire District about 75 minutes to extinguish the three-alarm blaze at the Tohono O'odham Swap Meet, 5721 S. Westover Ave., district spokeswoman Tracy Koslowski said.

The fire was initially reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when Drexel Heights received nine separate 911 calls from people living in a residential neighborhood south of the swap meet, which is on the southeast corner of Westover and West Drexel Road.

The fire occurred in a series of storage units on the property, Koslowski said. Koslowski described the structures as "rickety" and contained a heavy fuel load, part of the reason the fire took so long to put out.

No one was on the property at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported, Koslowski said.

Fire investigators and investigators with the Pima County Sheriff's Department were expected on scene around 7 a.m. today, Koslowski said.
