Bullhead City Firefighters Battle Tractor-Trailer Fire
United States (Arizona) -
On Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 3:08pm, two engine companies of Bullhead City Firefighters, one Rescue, and a Water Tender responded to a reported Tractor-trailer fire under the command of Battalion Chief Craig Stephenson. E-31 first arrived on scene to a trailer fully engulfed with fire, spreading rapidly to the Semi-truck cab. Crews quickly pulled pre-connected hose lines to attack the fire and extinguish the cab first. Contents of the trailer were confirmed to be sugar. E-21 arrived to assist in the fire fight. R-12 was added to the assignment to assist two patients with minor injuries. A water tender was requested from Fort Mohave Mesa Fire department to supply crews with the needed water to bring this incident to an end. The west bound traffic on Hwy 68 was closed for approximately two hours due to the deep seated fire and the cleaning of the streets from all the sweet, caramelized sugar on the roadway. A separate traffic accident had occurred prior to crews arriving which involved two vehicles right next to the trailer. One of the vehicles fled the scene.
