Charlotte Firefighters Respond To Fuel Tanker On Fire

Shortly before 11 am Thursday morning Charlotte Firefighters were called to service for reports of fuel tanker on fire on Old Mt. Holly Rd in Northwest Charlotte. Firefighters arrived to find a tractor-trailer fuel tanker (carrying 8500 gallons of gasoline) which had collided with a utility pole and involved with fire. Charlotte Firefighters along with our Haz-Mat Teams were able to quickly extinguish the fire and confine the leak to the immediate area. After more than three hours the Charlotte Fire Department Haz-Mat Team working with the fuel transport company was able to complete the task of off-loading the gasoline from the damaged tanker to another nearby tanker that was brought in for the operation.

Other agencies who responded to this incident included CMPD, Charlotte Mecklenburg Emergency Management, Medic, CSX Railroad, North Carolina Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Division, Mecklenburg County EPA, and Duke Energy.
