Russian Wildfires Reach Mongolia
World - The number of wildfires in Russia has increased over the past 24 hours, the fire area has doubled and spread to a part of Mongolia, the Emergencies Ministry said. Over the past 24 hours the number of wildfires has increased by 74 and the fire area has doubled, the ministry said on Wednesday.

The last 24 hours saw 682 new wildfires erupting in the Far East, Siberian and Volga Urals districts. A total of 922 wildfires were registered, 608 of them were extinguished, and 314 still continue on a total area of 35,932.1 hectares.

Nineteen large wildfires were registered on an area of 26,954 hectares in the Primorsky and Khabarovsky Territory, Amur region, the Jewish Autonomous District, and Buryatia.

Emergency measures are in place in seven districts in the Amur region and in five districts in the Baikal Territory. Special anti- fire measures' were put in place in the Chelyabinsk region.

"The area covered by the wildfires over the past 24 hours is 14,178.8 hectares, including 10,789.8 hectares," the ministry said.

Also, on Tuesday "a wildfire from the forest-steppe zone crossed the national border after spreading south from the village of Ubur- Tokhor, Akshinsky District, the Baikal Territory, towards Mongolia and covering an area of 20 square meters."

"There is no threat to populated areas, oil and gas pipelines and potentially hazardous and other industrial facilities," the Emergencies Ministry.
