Man Dies In House Blaze

A man has died after a fire at a house in the village of Fankerton, west of Denny, Stirlingshire. Two fire units from Falkirk and one from Denny attended the blaze in the mid-terraced property at about 1.35am yesterday. David McGown, of Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service, was among the 16 firefighters at the scene.
He said: "There was a fire in the ground floor which we extinguished. Two adjoining properties were smoke damaged, but we searched them and there was no-one present."
The victim, believed to be in his 30s, but has not yet been named.
The fire service remained on scene until 4.30am. They will start a joint investigation with police later today into the cause of the incident.
A report will be sent to the procurator-fiscal.
